Cloud Native Platforms

Cloud Native Platforms

The use of Cloud Native Platforms is one of the biggest strategic technology trends, as also mentioned by Gartner. This includes technologies that help build agile, scalable, and highly-available application architectures in the cloud, rather than on-premise.

What does this mean for everyday business?

I will discuss this with an example of one of our Banking and Finance clients. The Covid-19 pandemic was a big jolt to traditional ways of doing business. With Cloud-Native applications, our client was able to navigate change and ensure business continuity. Here are the key takeaways in my view.

Respond to Change – The company was able to scale rapidly and address the rising customer demand for online services. The dynamic nature of cloud-native applications enabled them to quickly respond to change. This is a valuable skill for modern businesses in the face of changing markets, competition, and uncertainty.

Automate Processes – By automating tasks like application processing and KYC, they could provide their customers quick service and free up their resources for other strategic initiatives. Businesses are being weighed down by repetitive and mundane tasks that are carried out manually. Cloud-native environments inherently bring automation to development and operations which delivers huge benefits to your business.

Be Available – They also experienced negligible downtime after shifting to cloud-native applications and could offer a superior customer as well as employee engagement. Application downtime due to maintenance, upgrades, and outages is a part of running software. Low availability can be detrimental to a business as it directly impacts the customer experience. Cloud-Native Applications are highly available due to the large number of servers maintained by cloud providers. If a server is unavailable, another server immediately picks up the load to ensure uninterrupted service.

Having been in the software development business, I view cloud-native capabilities not only as a competitive advantage but as a norm for creating resilient businesses, moving forward.
