Automation

Automation is gradually catching on across all industries. But a large number of repetitive tasks are still done manually and present a huge opportunity for businesses to optimize their processes. CIOs are rising to the challenge with the help of technologists to reform infrastructure, software, security, and of course applications. Service deliveries using AI and ML are at the top of this list.

From being an option, automation has become a must-have for businesses to succeed. The competition and the need to hit the ground running after the pandemic are two of the main reasons for this shift in trend. Start-ups began as digital natives and realized the benefits of automation like scalability, resilience, reliability, and efficiency from the beginning of their journeys. On the other hand, established organizations required the push of a changing marketplace to gain a more robust IT posture and embrace automation to disrupt the status quo.

As I see it, efforts are needed in three main areas to bring about real transformation using automation.

On premise Infrastructure

A mix of computing and storage initiatives along with standardization of processes is required for streamlining operations and management with automation. A methodic and strategic approach to automation will deliver greater accuracy, improved security and resilience, and enhanced reliability.

Tools and Applications

Cloud technology has been at the forefront of automation and digital transformation. Offerings like Platform-as-a-Service options (#PaaS) have enhanced automation features and integrations providing a much wider scope for digitization than ever before. These tools are valuable in bringing about an “automation culture” which is governed by new metrics for a transformed organization.

Optimization using ML

Machine Learning-based automation brings the sophistication needed for an organization to grow beyond the basic automation of tasks. ML brings advanced capabilities like predictive analytics, capacity modeling, action response, and outage recovery, that can be a game-changer for organizations to accelerate their growth.
Today’s rapid innovation environment demands quick actions and decisions, that can only be supported by automation. The transition to automation is a significant one and needs careful planning and strategy to get everyone and everything on board. It is advisable to have dedicated teams or engage the services of experts to take on this journey methodically and consistently.
